Internships
The City of New Haven offers internships on a rolling basis throughout our city departments. Internships can be for either a full year or just a summer. We believe that equipping our students with hands-on opportunities that will expand their knowledge in a specific career field is necessary for our growth as a community, which is why the City offers a wide variety of internships. Communications Internship

The Communications Team is housed under the Community Development Department. An internship is offered during the summer. Interns must work at least 10 hours per week but can work up to 32.
The Communications Intern writes stories for our city newsletter Insight, compiles content and takes photographs for events, annual report, website, and social media accounts. The intern assists with website maintenance and creating engaging social media posts. The intern also assists with events and aids in the creation of marketing and advertising materials. The intern will also communicate with potential donors for prize giveaways and event activities.
Requirements for the internship include interpersonal skills; major in or have experience in communications, marketing, or a related field; junior or senior coursework in communications, public relations, marketing, or journalism (for high school and college students); and experience with Microsoft software and social media. Experience in graphic design, website design/maintenance, photography, or video production is a plus.
Administrative Internship

The Mayor's Office internship offers experience in city government and administration. Interns will work with the Mayor's executive assistant to help with community and government relations, research, documentation, mayor's events, and donor relations. Interns will also be able to work with various departments to gain knowledge on the functions and responsibilities of city employees. Internships are offered during the school year and the summer. Interns are required to work at least 4 hours a week and can work up to 10 hours.
The main goal of the Administrative Internship is to serve as an introduction of city government and an opportunity to learn if a career in Government is the right path for them.
