The Board holds public hearings to review applications for variances from specific provisions of the New Haven Zoning Code, special exceptions, contingent uses or appeals to decisions made by the Zoning Administrator. Prior to public hearings, a legal notice is published in Fort Wayne newspapers and by mail to others who may have an interest. Staff also notify property owners and neighborhood associations who may be in the immediate area of the desired development site.
Applications made to the Board of Zoning Appeals must be completed by the petitioner or an authorized agent and turned into the Planning Department no later than 5p.m. on the filing deadline listed on the Public Meeting Calendar. This is so staff can file a public notice as is required by Indiana Code and provide the application to the members of the Board. It is strongly urged that applicants explain their request prior to the public hearing, to the nearby and adjacent property owners and the neighborhood association. By doing so, the time available at the public hearing can be focused on the request.
Meetings: Meets 6 p.m. third Wednesday of the month
