K-9 Unit

Two teams of an officer and a specially trained canine make up the New Haven K-9 Unit. Since 1981, New Haven has had a K-9 team assisting in the fight against crime and the protection of our community. They have proven themselves invaluable to our overall mission.

New Haven police dogs working with their assigned police partner, go through extensive training in agility, obedience, tracking, criminal apprehension, and handler protection.

The City's K-9s are certified in Patrol and Narcotics Detection. Their training meets U.S. Police Canine Association standards.

Each K-9 team is trained locally by certified police work dog master trainers.

Get Involved

If you are looking to get involved and help our City grow its k-9 division, we always welcome donations and fund drives to help us purchase equipment to protect our four-legged partners.

In 2022, the Freedom Riders of Indiana Chapter 1 raised enough money to purchase and train another K-9 Team for New Haven. We are always so grateful for the help of our community.
