Officers patrol the approximately 14 square miles of New Haven, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Calls for Service
Each year we respond to approximately 10,000 calls for service. Officers are responsible for preventative patrol in their assigned zone, but may be dispatched to any part of the City in an emergency. There are 24 full-time and 9 reserve men and women who patrol the city.
Officers take thousand of reports every year and make approximately 400 arrests. We have 18 dispatchers who work diligently to take every report of crime very seriously and are trained to make sure they reach the right department to address the needs.
The New Haven Police Department subscribes to a policy of community-oriented policing. Residents are encouraged to call with their concerns or complaints. The assigned officer is responsible for working with the resident or business owner to correct the problem.
New Haven Detectives are active in the community and routinely receive advanced training in areas such as street crimes, juvenile investigations, and so much more.
