Community Programs
Empowering our residents to actively participate in shaping their community and gain insights into government and law enforcement is a priority for us. The City has developed engaging programs that provide citizens with opportunities for self-education. It's about looking 'Beyond the Government' and 'Beyond the Badge' to discover the dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to make New Haven not just a city, but a thriving place to live, work, play, and visit.
Citizen's Academy
This 6-week program, held once a year, gives residents an informative and interactive look at New Haven's local government and the departments that it is made up of. Participants must be a resident of New Haven. Learn More about Citizen's Academy.
Mayor's Youth Advisory Council
This initiative provides young adults with a unique opportunity to actively engage and gain insights into the inner workings of their local government. By amplifying the voices of students, their stories and experiences become catalysts for shaping the community, making it a more vibrant and welcoming place for the younger generation. Learn More about the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council.
National Night Out
Once a year, New Haven's Police Department participates in the National Night Out with a community event at Schnelker Park. The event is open to everyone, and offers free activities, food, and giveaways for all. Volunteers are always welcome, and donations are greatly appreciated. National Night Out | New Haven, IN
