It is a requirement that the New Haven Police shall treat all people fairly, impartially, and with respect and dignity while maintaining the integrity of the profession.

Requirements

- Be a U.S. Citizen

- No felony or criminal convictions

- Shall not have received anything other than an honorable discharge from the military, or other discharge with honorable conditions

- Be at least 21 years of age and less than 40 years of age at the time of appointment to the department unless already an Indiana Police PERF member

- Must be a high school graduate as evidenced by a diploma issued by an accredited high school by the department or agency of the State authorized to accredit high schools or have certification of an equivalent education

- Reside in Allen County or an adjacent county and maintain residential telephone service at the time of appointment

- Possess a valid driving license from the State of Indiana at the time of appointment

- Agree to provide certified current personal credit background report upon request

Hiring Process

- Candidates will expect the following when going through the hiring process with the New Haven Police Department:

- Field training officer programs

- Polygraph exam

- Voice-stress exam

- Drug screening exam

- Pass a general aptitude test

- Pass a physical fitness assessment

Benefits

The Police Department offers a competitive benefits package for their employees including but not limited to:

- Probationary salary of $60,104.98

- Salary of $70,260.32 when promoted to Patrolman First Class

- Shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shift officers

- Pension plan

- Prorated PTO after being hired, not to exceed 160 hours

- 200 hours of PTO after 1 year

- Paid holidays and birthday

- Longevity bonus up to 10%
