City of New Haven Announces New Police Chief, James Krueger, and Recognizes the Contributions of outgoing Police Chief, Jeff McCracken
New Haven, Indiana, November 8, 2023 - The City of New Haven is pleased to announce the appointment of Detective James Krueger as the new Police Chief, effective January 1, 2024. Chief Krueger brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to community engagement and public safety, positioning the city for continued progress and excellence in law enforcement.
Mayor Steve McMichael expressed his gratitude for the former chief's unwavering service and leadership, stating, "We are immensely grateful for the tireless dedication and remarkable contributions of Chief Jeff McCracken during his tenure. His vision and commitment to fostering a safe and cohesive community have left an indelible mark on the city of New Haven."
Chief McCracken has been with the New Haven Police Department since January 2006 and was appointed Chief of Police in July of 2019. He was able to accomplish several goals, most notably the implementation of body worn cameras for all road patrol officers. He has also overseen the upgrade of the department’s video server and dispatch center. We appreciate his service and the positive changes he has made will continue to benefit our community. He will continue to serve the New Haven Community as a member of the New Haven Police Department.
Speaking about the appointment of Chief Krueger, Mayor McMichael affirmed, "We are confident that Chief Krueger's extensive experience and forward-thinking approach will further strengthen our police department's ability to serve and protect the residents of New Haven. Chief Krueger has expressed his eagerness to serve the community, stating, "I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to lead the dedicated men and women of the New Haven Police Department. I am committed to building upon the department's existing efforts and continuing to foster strong community relationships to ensure the safety and well-being of all New Haven residents."
Chief Krueger is certified as a generalist and firearm instructor as well as a truth verification operator. He began his career in law enforcement by joining the Allen County Police Reserve program in 2006. In December of 2009, he joined the New Haven Police Department and graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy with Honors. His service did not go unnoticed, in 2015 he was promoted to Detective and in 2019 was promoted to Detective Supervisor.
