Plan Commission
Meetings
The New Haven Plan Commission meets every month at the City Administration Building. At these meetings, the Commission holds public hearings to review applications for development plans and plats. The Commission also reviews rezoning petitions and amendments to the New Haven Zoning and Subdivision Control Ordinances. Final authority of the passage of rezoning petitions and amendments to the New Haven Zoning and Subdivision Control Ordinances lies with the New Haven City Council.
Prior to a public hearing, the Commission places the required legal notice of the hearing In the Fort Wayne Newspapers and also notifies, by mail, others who may have an interest in the request. The staff generally notifies those property owners in the immediate area of the subject site and those neighborhood associations in close proximity to the site.
Agendas & Minutes
Agendas are available prior to the meetings. Minutes are available following approval.

Purpose
The Plan Commission is an advisory body to the New Haven Common Council regarding matters of the city's growth and development. Members are appointed based upon their experience and aptitude to review development plans and petitions adhering to the standards set forth in the New Haven Zoning and Subdivision Control Ordinances.
Decisions made by Plan Commission members must support the Comprehensive Plan in order:
- That adequate qualities may be secured:
- Air
- Convenience of access
- Light
- Safety from fire, flood, and other dangers
- That the congestion in the public streets may be lessened or avoided
- That variables of the public may be promoted such as:
- Comfort
- Convenience
- General public welfare
- Health
- Morals
- Safety
Applications
Applications made to the Commission must be completed by the petitioner or an authorized agent. Submissions must be received by the planning office by the close of business on the filing deadline listed on the Public Meeting Calendar. This allows time for the staff to provide public notice as required by Indiana Code and forward the submitted information for each case to the members of the Commission.
When reviewing petitions the Plan Commission will consider existing conditions, the character of buildings erected in each district and the conservation of property values throughout the territory of the Commission.
